Exhibition of Italy’s Finest Baroque Painter Guercino Opens in Zagreb

A number of distinguished guests, included Croatia’ President and Minister of Culture, turned up at the Museum of Arts and Crafts in Zagreb last night for the opening of the exhibition “Guercino – The Light of Baroque”…
Giovanni Francesco Barbieri, who was known as Guercino, was one of the greatest Italian painters of the Baroque period. Visitors will have a chance to see 30 of Guercino’s masterpieces, including which are on display at the exhibition until 31 January. Included in the artwork on display are altar retables and frescos transferred to canvas, which were originally created for the churches and palaces of Cento, Guercino’s birth town.
The exhibition is being organised in cooperation with the City Pinacotheca of Cento, the Italian Institute for Culture and the Italian Embassy in Zagreb.
