With youth unemployment a serious problem in Croatia, reportedly one of the highest in the EU at over 40%, the government announced new measures for 2015 this week aimed at slashing that figure…
Speaking at the 3rd European Jobs Day conference in Opatija this week, Labour and Pension System Minister Mirando Mrsić said that Croatia would use every single cent of the 60 million euros available from the European Social Fund to help stimulate youth employment in 2015. Mrsić said that the unemployment rate among Croatians aged between 15-25 had dropped by 8% this year, and said new measures next year will help further reduce that number.
Mrsić indicated that the current monthly compensation for employers who employ a youth worker with no prior experience would increase from 1,600 kuna (210 euros) to 2,400 kuna (310 euros). The Labour and Pension System Minister stressed that vocational schools and businesses needed to work closer together to allow a easier transition for young, potential employees to move into their desired fields.
