The biggest punishment in Croatian football first division (HNL) history was handed out on Thursday to Hajduk Split football club after it failed to take the pitch last month against rivals Dinamo Zagreb…
Hajduk Split have been deducted three points, and had five of its key figures, including its President, banned from being involved in the game for 12 months by the HNL disciplinary committee.
Hajduk Split President Marin Brbić, and board members Ljubo Pavasović – Visković, Vjekoslav Hrabar, Ante Majić and Nikola Koceić – Bilan all received bans from being able to work in football for one year. On top of that, all 16 Hajduk Split players who did not take the pitch were fined 3,000 kuna each (410 euros).
To recap, Hajduk Split refused to take the field on 22 November for their match against Dinamo Zagreb after their fans (Torcida) boycotted the stadium when one of their members was refused entry at the gate. Dinamo Zagreb say that they received a ‘blacklist’ of 92 people banned from attending football matches from police before the match. When one of those on the list was refused a ticket at the gate, the rest of the travelling Split fans refused to enter the stadium, leading the players to join in the boycott.
