More bad news for telecommunications companies operating in Croatia with news that the popular free message service WhatsApp have started to roll out free voice calls…
In the first 9 months of 2014 Croats sent 2.4 billion fewer SMSes than they did in the same period last year, a drop of 8.6% thanks to the rise in popularity of applications such as Viber and WhatsApp. Call minutes are also expected to drop as WhatsApp launch its free-calling service.
WhatsApp is slowly rolling out its long-expected voice calling feature, which is set to be part of its 2.11.508 version of the app. A screenshot, posted to Reddit on the weekend, reveals how the Calls tool looks on a Nexus 5 device running Android Lollipop. WhatsApp said in 2014 that it would be entering the free voice call market. WhatsApp, which has over 700 million users worldwide, is in the process of a takeover from Facebook for US$19 billion.
