She weighs just 55kgs and only started powerlifting a year ago, but Milijana de Mori Vojnović has already broken three Croatian records to become the country’s strongest woman…
Vojnović, originally from the western Slavonian town of Požega, has become the Croatian champion and new record holder in three categories after the National Powerlifting Championships held recently in Virovitica.
Milijana, who is married to Australian-Croatian boxer Mark de Mori, set a new squat record when she squatted 112.5kgs, 27.5kgs more than the second placed competitor. Vojnović set records when she won the bench press (70kgs) and deadlift (125kgs) categories also. Vojnović, who was a former Croatian kick-boxing champion, only started training bench press a few weeks ago.
“My goal is to represent Croatia at the Olympic games. I know I have to train intense. Anything is possible, but I need to create a plan,” said Milijana, who first will represent Croatia at the European Powerlifting Championships in the Czech Republic.
Milijana’s husband Mark, who is ranked 9th in the world by the World Boxing Association and 16th in the world by the World Boxing Council, boasts a career record of 28 wins from 31 fights (24 by knockout), winning his last 19 fights. (Screenshot)
