Blaca Hermitage, which originally was established in 1551 by two Glagolitic monks who fled there after running from the Turks, and continued by successive generations of monks until 1963 with the death of Father Niko Miličević, was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List on January 29, 2007, in the Cultural category.
Blaca Hermitage was renovated and turned into a very unique museum in the 1980’s, displaying a collection of ancient weapons, watches, furniture, a rich library and much more.
The European Council every two years award projects by local associations and organisations that are recognised as exemplary examples of the preservation of the landscape.
