The average Zagrebian earns 6,656 kuna a month (860 euros), with 1,595 (just over 200 euros) set aside to cover monthly utility bills. Whilst a full week’s work is required to cover basic living costs in Zagreb, those in Helsinki, Finland have to work just 5 hours to cover the same basic living costs with the average wage there 17,560 kuna (2,200 euros) and utility bills just 578 kuna (75 euros).

Zagreb is one of the European capitals with the highest utility rates, beating even London, where the average citizen forks out 1,500 a month (200 euros) to cover utility bills. However, Londoners enjoy a far bigger average monthly salary (2,850 euros) than those in Zagreb. Ljubljana is one of the few European cities with higher utility bills than Zagreb (1,629 kuna – 210 euros).
