Biggest Bust in 10 Years: German-Registered Vehicle Stopped With 140kg of Heroin at Croatian Border

A 46-year-old Turkish and 26-year-old German national, in a German registered VW Caddy, were stopped by customs officials on Monday and when the vehicle was searched customs officials found 140 kilograms of heroin hidden in the combi.

The drugs were packed in 261 separate packets and have a street value of over 5.5 million euros. The bust was the biggest at the border crossing in the last 10 years, police said at a press conference on Tuesday.

The 46-year-old Turkish man was driving the combi, whilst his 26-year-old passenger was a German national but also of Turkish descent. Police say that the vehicle became suspicious as despite only carrying two passengers it was ‘almost lying on its wheels’. (photo / MUP)
