EURO 2016: Croatia to Play Italy Behind Closed Doors After UEFA Punishment

Croatia will face Italy behind closed doors in their Euro 2016 qualifier on 12 June after UEFA handed down punishment today following an incident in the recent qualifier against Norway in Zagreb on 28 March…
All the talk this week in Croatia has been about changing the venue of the match from Zagreb to Split, but that is all irrelevant now after Wednesday’s decision from UEFA. Here is UEFA’s decision in full which was published on their website.
The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) met today and announced the following decision in relation to various incidents that occurred during the European Qualifiers Group H match between Croatia and Norway, which was played in Zagreb on 28 March.
Croatian Football Association (HNS)
Incidents: Racist behaviour of supporters – Art. 14 of UEFA Disciplinary Regulations. Setting off/throwing of missiles and fireworks – Art. 16 (2) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations
Decision: The CEDB has ordered the Croatian Football Association to play its next UEFA competition match as host association behind closed doors (against Italy on 12 June). The Croatian Football Association has also been fined €50,000.
The association has also been fined €5,000 for the setting off of fireworks.
The racist behaviour compaints came after sections of the crowd chanted ‘Za Dom Spremni’, the same chant that got defender Josip Šimunić banned for 10 matches, a number of times throughout the match.
