A District Court Council in Zagreb have ruled on Monday that Milan Bandić can return to his duties as Mayor of Zagreb…
Bandić, who was released from custody last week and faces charges of corruption, bribery and organised crime, initially was forbidden to carry out his functions as Mayor as part of his bail conditions, but today the court ruled that Bandić could resume duties.
To recap, Bandić and 19 others were arrested on 19 October 2014 on suspicion of corruption, bribery and organised crime. The Mayor was initially remanded in custody for one month before he was released on a record 2 million euros bail and stripped of his official function. Last month Bandić was arrested for breach of bail and ordered back behind bars. His 2 million euros bail was also forfeited to the state. Last week the Constitutional Court in Zagreb overturned the decision and he was released from custody with the bail money returned.
Bandić is expected to head back to work today.
