A big blow for Croatia with news that star midfielder Luka Modrić will be sidelined for at least six weeks…
Modrić hobbled off during Real Madrid’s clash with Malaga on Saturday after picking up a knee injury. An MRI scan today confirmation that the playmaker has suffered a second-degree collateral ligament injury to his right knee. Croatia national team doctor Boris Nemec, who spoke with Modrić after the injury, confirmed he will be out of action for six weeks.
The injury means Modrić now looks likely to miss Croatia’s important Euro qualifier against Italy on 12 June.
“I spoke with Luka and wish him a speedy and happy recovery. It is definitely not easy for him, he has got injured again just when he was getting back into rhythm. Injuries are a part of football. Luka is an excellent worker, I don’t doubt that he will work on his recovery like the professional that he is. We will not force his recovery (for the match against Italy), his health is the most important,”said Croatia coach Niko Kovač.
