International Women’s Club of Zagreb Donates Life-Saving Equipment to Sv. Duh Hospital

The International Women’s Club of Zagreb (IWCZ) will present life-saving equipment purchased from the proceeds of the 2014 IWCZ Christmas Bazaar to the Neonatal Unit of Clinical Hospital “Sveti Duh” Zagreb today…

IWCZ raised 271, 086 HRK (36,000 euros) through its 21st Christmas Bazaar held on 7th December 2014. The fundraising allowed the following items to be purchased for the hospital;

8 x Braun Perfusor Space
2 x Braun Space Station
1 x Heated table for newborns with NEOPUFF device and HFNC system for the treatment of high flow
2 x Pulse Oximeter with handle
2 x Heaters for newborns floating chassis, manual control and temperature control

“Donation of this equipment is especially dear to our hearts as it is a much needed equipment that saves babies and offers doctors and nurses of Sveti Duh hospital a much better chance to welcome the newborns” says Heather McCrimmon, IWCZ President.

The 21st Christmas Bazaar was held on Sunday 7th December, 2014 at Zagreb Fair. 43 countries participated in this successful fundraiser attracting over 5000 visitors. The IWCZ would like to express kind gratitude to all sponsors, donors, embassies, volunteers and visitors in making this donation happen.

The “ribbon cutting” ceremony, which will take place at noon today at the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Clinic Grand Lecture Hall next to the Main Clinical Laboratory, will be attended by prof. dr. Tatjana Josipović (Christmas Bazaar Patron), Mr Milan Bandić (Mayor of Zagreb), as well as hospital and IWCZ representatives.

About the International Women’s Club Zagreb:
Whether in embassies and consulates, international companies or organizations – there are people constantly arriving in Croatia, looking to connect with other expats as well as Croatians. The IWCZ was established in 1993 with the aim of creating a social network for international women living in Zagreb and Croatia. We are a vibrant and multicultural English speaking club, and offer expats, international business women or trailing spouses the opportunity to connect, network and socialize.

We currently have over 210 members from about 50 nations (Croatians can form up to 25% of our membership). The Club organizes activities for members on a regular basis including charity events, workshops, cultural activities, day trips, art classes, visits to local businesses and organizations. Our members formed special interest groups (e.g. language conversation, book club) as well as a Kids’ Club. During the club year (September-June) a General Meeting is held every second Tuesday of the month at the Sheraton Hotel, unveiling the month’s activities and offering a program with changing themes.

The IWCZ has a strong interest in making our members’ stay in Croatia a memorable and enriching experience. We share with members the rich cultural experiences Zagreb & Croatia have to offer, and give back to the community. Our members have raised over 4 million Kuna for charity in Croatia, over the past 21 years. Projects include the annual popular Christmas Bazaar, charity lunches, an International Food Festival, and a Carnival Party. The Club is a non-profit organization and is officially registered with the Croatian government as such.
