Loud applause from the audience has followed Croatia’s debut film screening in the official selection at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival yesterday…
‘Zvizdan’ (The High Sun), directed by Dalibor Matanić (pictured at Cannes in tie), screened on Sunday at the 68th Cannes Film Festival, the first time a Croatian film has been featured in the official selection.
“Wherever in the world we live, life is short to waste time on hate and intolerance. This is our way of fighting for love,” Matanić said before yesterday’s screening.
‘Zvizdan’ is a love story which shows the force which is necessary to rise above the negativity encountered in everyday life to love in its purity and stars Tihana Lazović, Goran Marković, Nives Ivanković, Dado Ćosić, Stipe Radoja, Trpimir Jurkić, Mira Banjac, Slavko Sobin, Lukrecija Tudor, Tara Rosandić and Ksenija Marinković.
Since 1991 there have been 5 films from Croatia to feature at Cannes, but this is the first time that a film has made the official selection programme of the most prestigious of all the film festivals.
