Croatia is among the top six nations in Europe with the cleanest swimming water, it was revealed in the European Enviroment Agency’s annual report released on Wednesday…
According to the report, Croatia, along with Cyprus, Malta, Greece, Germany and Luxembourg are the only nations in Europe with ‘excellent’ swimming water quality. The report, which has been produced for the last 21 years, details the results of testing at more than 21,000 locations in Europe (including lakes and rivers) for harmful pollutants and bacteria, such as E. coli. The top six nations with the cleanest swimming water in Europe all returned excellent standards in over 90% of tested waters.
Three countries with the greatest number of polluted swimming spots were Italy (109 locations or 1.9%), Spain (67 locations or 3.1%) and France (105 locations or 3.1%). Estonia (5.6%, Ireland (5.1%), Holland (4.9%), and Sweden (3.6%) all were worse off with a higher percent of poor quality swimming spots.
