It has been a fantastic day for Croatian women’s tennis in Paris…
Mirjana Lučić-Baroni has caused the biggest upset of the French Open so far today when she beat 3rd seed Romanian Simona Halep 7-5, 6-1 in 73 minutes.
“It was an honour to play against Simona, who is a great champion. It suited me that I had to attack, I prefer to play like that,” Mirjana said after the win.
The 33-year-old will now face 29th seed Alizé Cornet from France in the third round.
There was further good news for Croatian fans on Wednesday after Donna Vekić beat Serbia’s Bojana Jovanovski 6-4, 6-3 to make it through to the third round for the first time in her career. She now plays the winner of the Misaki Doi v Ana Ivanović match in the next round.
