Frenchman Gael Monfils and local rising star Borna Ćorić will lead the field at the 26th Konzum Croatia Open, which will be held in the coastal town of Umag next month…
This year’s tournament will be opened on Saturday 18th July with an exhibition match starring Goran Ivanišević and friends followed by a concert by Željko Joksimović. On Wednesday 22nd July visitors will be welcomed by the undisputable king of Umag, Carlos Moya who will play against the 1999 winner Magnus Norman, while world-famous DJ Bob Sinclar will be in charge for the party.
Monfils, whose best ever ATP ranking was seventh, will be in Umag for the second time, after being a popular visitor back in 2013. Besides Monfils, the crowd will have a chance to see promising local Borna Ćorić in action. This season Ćorić has played two semi-finals on the Tour, impressing after beating both Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray. German Philipp Kohlschreiber and Italian Fabio Fognini were also confirmed by the tournament director.
“We are ready for the beginning of the tournament, and the players’ list which we presented has made us very excited, since these names guarantee a spectacle. We did not want to have only highly ranked players, but also those who offer more than just tennis on the court, those who show emotions and leave no one indifferent. I believe we succeeded in that and that all the visitors of 26th Konzum Croatia Open Umag will be satisfied with everything that waits for them in Stella Maris”, said the tournament director Lawrence Frankopan.
“I am glad that these types of matches (exhibition) are becoming a tradition in Umag, as it is the case in other big tournaments. Borna, my humble self and our guests guarantee great entertainment and different tennis experience than the one you are used to. I am also sure that the return of Carlos Moya and Magnus Norman will cause great interest and that we will all remember excellent moments from Umag courts”, said Goran Ivanišević.
For the sixth year in a row the Istria Gourmet Festival will be held during the tournament at the venue.
