Construction on Pelješac Bridge to Start this Year

Construction work on the Pelješac Bridge, which is to connect the Croatian peninsula of Pelješac, and through it the southernmost part of Croatia including Dubrovnik, with the Croatian mainland, is most likely to start at the end of this year or the beginning of next, Transport Minister Siniša Hajdaš Dončić has said in an interview…
Hajdaš Dončić confirmed that European Commission feasibility and environmental impact studies were now complete and would be presented to the public on Monday. The first tender for works on the bridge would be announced in early autumn, the Minister said.
Hajdaš Dončić expects the bridge to cost around 200 million euros, but would not go into detail about how much of that amount would come from EU funds. At least 50% is expected, and the Minister said that if that rose to 80% it would be very good.
The planned bridge has been a contentious political issue since construction started in 2007 and stalled. The bridge is intended to connect Pelješac peninsular with the Croatian mainland, spanning the Adriatic Sea, which separates the two near the Bay of Mali Ston and the Neretva Channel.
