Čilić was too good for Ukrainian-born American Denis Kudla at the All England Club in London, winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.
Čilić, who is hoping to win his second Grand Slam in 12 months, will now meet the winner of the Novak Djoković / Kevin Anderson match for a place in the semi-finals.
Meanwhile Croatia’s other singles hopeful, Ivo Karlović, was knocked out of the tournament on Monday by Andy Murray. Murray was too good for the 36-year-old Croat, winning 7-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in just under 3 hours.
