Dinamo Zagreb’s Mamić Brothers Free on Bail

Dinamo Zagreb football chairman Zdravko Mamić, and head coach, bother Zoran Mamić, have been released on bail by a Zagreb court on Wednesday afternoon…
Zdravko and brother Zoran were arrested on 5 July and initially remanded in custody for a month, but on Wednesday a Zagreb court accepted large bail bonds for the pair’s release. Zdravko Mamić had to pay the court 7 million kuna (950,000 euros), whilst Zoran had to forfeit 4 million kuna (520,000 euros). Both will be released later this afternoon from prison, HINA confirmed.
The pair face fraud and embezzlement charges which anti-corruption investigators say cost Dinamo Zagreb 17.3m USD. According to reports the pair are accused of taking cuts from the transfer of some of the club’s players, including Real Madrid’s Luka Modrić.
Croatian football federation executive president, Damir Vrbanović, who was also arrested in the operation, was released on 1 million kuna (113,000 euros) bail.
With the Mamić brothers in custody over the weekend the club enjoyed a near full house for the first time in a while as the club’s Bad Blue Boys fans ended a boycott after an ongoing feud with Mamić.
