One of the biggest tourism companies on the northern Adriatic island of Lošinj, Jadranka, who have invested over 140 million euros in hotels and other tourism businesses over the last 8 years, have announced a massive new 250 million euros investment for the island…
The project, CEO Sanjin Šolić told daily Jutarnji list, will see the town of Mali Lošinj on the island become a 5-star destination for the jet-set with the construction of luxury hotels, a 35-million euro airport, and a 100-million euro golf resort.
Šolić says the most important part of the project is the building of an eco golf resort at Punta Križa, which will see two 18-hole championship courses built, meaning the resort could host some international golf tournaments.
“We are expecting world golf elite to come, especially since we have agreed to work with professional golfer Ernie Els. He was here last week and his team are already working on this project. We believe having the opportunity to play on a course designed by Ernie Els will create interest among golfers to come here and play. Els creates two golf courses a year and he only selects the best locations in the world,” Šolić said.
Currently an environmental impact study is being done for the construction of the golf resort, which will include hotels, villas, pools and a helipad, and Šolić expects that everything should be ready to start by 2017.
Jadranka, who recently opened the first salt-water water park on the island, are currently building a 5-star boutique hotel in Čikat, and plan to redevelop the airport on the island with a 35 million euro investment.
“We are clear that developing the airport alone would not pay off, but if we build 5-star hotels, then we can bring desired clients. Without the airport the rest of this project would not make sense. We want to be a leader for healthy living on the whole Mediterranean,” he said.
