The International Space Station is the third brightest object in the sky, and it is not too hard to see if you know the right time to look up into the sky…
Every so often the International Space Station becomes visible at night. It will be shining brightest tonight (Friday 14 August) at 9:47pm in the sky above Croatia.
The space station looks like a fast-moving plane in the sky, but it is dozens of times higher than any airplane and traveling thousands of miles an hour faster. It is bright enough that it can even be seen from the middle of a city.
The ISS orbits at approximately 220 miles above the Earth and it travels at an average speed of 27,724 kilometers (17,227 miles) per hour. The ISS makes multiple orbits around the Earth every day. So if you are in Croatia have a look up tonight.
