The much-anticipated new Star Wars film has set an opening day box office record in Croatia…
Star Wars: The Force Awakens opened across Croatia on Friday with fans packing out cinemas. More than 20,000 people watched the film on opening day, the most ever at Croatian cinemas.
Many are forecasting the film to be the highest-grossing film in cinema history, and the opening night figures suggest it may well be. Just on premiere night alone, the film earned 14.1 million dollars in European cinemas, whilst on Thursday in the U.S when it opened it generated 50 million dollars.
It was not only in Croatia where opening day box office records were set in Europe, records were also broken in Belgium, Norway, Finland, Sweden and Holland.
Advanced ticket sales in the U.S are valued at over 100 million dollars.
The latest film is the 7th installment in the main Star Wars film series, and stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac and Lupita Nyong’o.
The Force Awakens is set approximately 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi, where the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire have become the Resistance and the First Order, respectively, and follows new leads Finn, Rey, and Poe Dameron alongside characters returning from previous Star Wars films.
