Advent Starts In Zagreb

The Christian season of Advent, where the days leading up to Christmas are celebrated, has begun in the heart of the Croatian capital Zagreb.

The first two Advent candles will be light today to kick it all off on Zagreb’s main square. A string of entertainment and cultural programmes will also take place in the city in the lead up to Christmas, including an improvised skiing area on Strossmayer promenade. Christmas market stalls have gone up in the city, where traditional Croatian products are sold along with the traditional Advent entertainment tent on the main square Ban Jelacic.

The smell of sausages and cooked wine dominates the streets at night as the city gets into the festive spirit.
