Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, Prime Minister Tihomir Orešković and Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandić were part of the dignitaries that were present at the Chinese New Year celebrations on Saturday night on Zagreb’s main square…
Saturday night’s celebrations were organised by Zagreb City, the City of Beijing and the Chinese Embassy in Croatia.
“To all Chinese, especially those who live and work in Croatia, and the growing number of Chinese tourists visiting Croatia, I want to extend best wishes and sincere congratulations for the spring holiday and the marking lunar new year. I wish you , together with good health and happiness, that your hopes come true and that the “year of the monkey” brings progress in your personal and business life,” Croatian President Grabar-Kitarović said.
“It was with great pleasure that tonight I visited Zagreb’s Ban Josip Jelačić square to attend the opening event to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Promoting cultural and political cooperation has become the moto of cooperation between Croatian and Chinese people. Friendship between Croatia and China has already been built. Now we must work to improve economic co-operation. Croatia has a big chance in attracting Chinese investment and to take advantage of the opportunities to increase our exports to the huge Chinese market,” said Orešković.
Last week 80 Terracotta Chinese warrior sculptures were placed on Zagreb’s main Ban Josip Jelačić square in preparations for Chinese New Year celebrations. The sculptures are inspired by The Terracotta Army or the Terracotta Warriors and Horses, which is a famous collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China.
