German footwear manufacturer HAIX this weekend opened two factories in the northern Croatian town of Mala Subotica…
The new 5 million euro factories will see the company’s production capacity go from 6,000 to 10,000 pairs of shoes a day. HAIX, who have been in Croatia since 1999, have employed 660 people to date in Croatia, and the new investment will create a further 170 new jobs.
“By building the new halls in Mala Subotica we have confirmed that our decision to invest in Croatia was right,” HAIX CEO Ewald Haimerl said at the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, adding that the company was transfering its production from Asia to the EU.
Haimerl said that HAIX opted for Croatia for several reasons, including the amount of skilled labour in the Medjimurje region. He also stated that he was surprised that it had taken just four to eight weeks to obtain all the necessary permits for the new factories.
Shoes made in Mala Subotica were sold across the world. While the company specialises in footwear for soldiers, forest keepers, firefighters and police officers, they were selling increasing numbers of everyday footwear.
