A rematch of the Wimbledon final of 1992 will take place in Umag, Croatia this summer…
Tennis legends Goran Ivanišević and Andre Agassi will square off once again, this time in an exhibition match to be played as part of this year’s Croatia Open in Umag. The tournament, which will be held from 15-24 July 2016, is this year celebrating its 15th anniversary and will feature a rematch of the 1992 Wimbledon final when Agassi beat Goran in 5 sets.
That match in 1992 against Agassi was just the first of four Wimbledon finals Goran would play. He lost to Pete Sampras in 1994 and 1998 before finally lifting the trophy in 2001. The exhibition match between the two giants of the game will be played on 16 July, two days before the main draw starts.
Agassi, a former World Number 1, was one of the game’s most dominant players from the early 1990s to the mid-2000s. He has been called the greatest service returner in the history of the game, winning 60 career titles and eight Grand Slam titles.
Ivanišević and Agassi, who is one of seven players to win all four Grand Slams, met seven times in their career with the American winning four and the Croatian three.
