A stunning LEGO® display of Osijek’s central post office has taken out first place in the large building category at the 10th Brickworld, the premier LEGO® fan experience in North America, held in Chicago recently…
Gordan Grgurić, a professor at the Richard Stockton University in New Jersey, was the creator of the winning display and became the first Croatia to win the top prize at Brickworld. Grgurić told Radio Osijek that he decided to construct the Osijek post office in eastern Croatia after first laying eyes on it 5 years ago when he was there for a visit.
Grgurić began constructing it on the 100th anniversary of the post office three and a half years ago.
Using a ratio of 1:24, Grgurić used 165,000 LEGO® pieces on the 150 kilogram display and says he spent around 4,000 hours working on it. Grgurić hopes to sort the transporting logisitics out shortly so that the display can be displayed in his native Croatia.
Brickworld is one of the biggest exhibitions in North America and is aimed at adult LEGO® fans. More than 700 exhibitors from all over the world presented their displays in over 10,000 square metres of space at the anniversary edition of the popular Brickworld exhibition.
