Croatia’s Ivo Karlović has broken the record for the number of aces in a match at the U.S. Open on Tuesday…
The 6-foot-11 Croatian broke the previous record at the U.S. Open set in 1999 by Richard Krajicek of 49 aces during his first round 5-set win against Yen-hsun Lu of Taiwan 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-7 (4), 7-6 (5), 7-5 on Tuesday.
Karlović, who held serve 28 out his 29 services games during the match, hit 22 aces in one set alone on his way to setting a new record that looks set to stay for a long time.

The record for most aces in any match is 113, set by John Isner during the longest match in tennis history, his victory over Nicolas Mahut that ended 70-68 in the fifth set during Wimbledon’s first round in 2010.

Karlović is considered the best server on tour,holding the all-time record for career aces – and is one of only two players in history to surpass 10,000 aces. The other player is fellow Croatian and former Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanišević.
