Croatia’s HNL 4th Highest Net Earning League in the World in 2016 Transfer Window

Only 3 other football leagues in the world earned a net profit bigger than the Croatian football league after the summer transfer window closed yesterday…

Croatia’s HNL clubs combined this transfer window earned a net profit of 68.7 million euros, making it the 4th highest in the world only behind the French, Portuguese and Dutch leagues. This summer was not a one-off either. Last winter at the close of the transfer window Croatia’s HNL was ranked 9th highest net-earning league in the world.

Calculated on exports minus imports, the Croatian HNL broke its 2008 record this year thanks to some huge signings to Italy. Dinamo Zagreb and Croatia internationals Marko Pjaca and Marko Rog were the signings of the summer. Pjaca was sold to Juventus for a massive 23 million euros, whilst Rog went to Napoli for 16.5 milllion euros with an option of earning another 1.5 million in bonuses.

The highest net-earning league in the world was France’s Lique 1 with 325.2 million euros, helped by the transfer of Zlatan Ibrahimović from PSG to Manchester United, followed by the Portuguese first division and the Dutch Eredivisie in third spot.

Other signings in the window saw Hajduk Split’s Tino Sušić move to Genk in the Belgium league and Dinamo Zagreb’s Portuguese keeper Eduardo signed by Chelsea in the English Premier League.
