Croatian Mate Pavić Wins US Open Grand Slam Mixed Doubles Title

23-year-old Croatian tennis player Mate Pavić has won the US Open mixed doubles title with his German partner Laura Siegemund in New York on Friday. Pavić and 28-year-old Siegemund were too good for their American opponents Coco Vandeweghe and Rajeev Ram, winning 6:4, 6:4.
Pavić and Siegemund did not lose a set all tournament leading up to the final and were impressive again against the 7th seeds in the final. Laura Siegemund is ranked 27th in the world in singles, whilst Pavić is a specialist doubles player on the tour claiming 5 titles with Kiwi Michael Venus.
The win at the US Open means it is the sixth time a Croatia has claimed a Grand Slam title. Pavić now joins Iva Majoli (French Open singles), Mirjana Lučić (Australian Open doubles), Goran Ivanišević (Wimbledon singles), Marin Čilić (US Open singles) and Ivan Dodig (French Open doubles) as winners at Grand Slam tournaments.
Pavić and Siegemund will share $150,000 in prize money for their efforts which saw them go though the US Open without dropping a single set.
