Passenger numbers through Croatian airports in the first 7 months of 2016 are up 12.4% compared to the same period in 2015. Close to 1.5 million passengers passed through the Croatian airports of Brac, Dubrovnik, Mali Losinj, Osijek, Pula, Rijeka, Split, Zadar and Zagreb in July, bringing the tally to 4.4 million for 2016 so far.
Economic growth in the EU, increased demand in Croatian holiday destinations and more international flights landing in Croatia all have helped Croatia on its way to recording an all-time record at its airports.
“Croatia, like other EU nation, is trying to respond to the challenge of providing adequate accommodation capacity for the current trend of growing air transport,” Ljubica Herceg of the HGK said.
“Work on the upgrading of the airports in Zagreb and Dubrovnik is nearing completion and work is soon to start on the modernisation of Split Airport”, she added.
Zagreb airport has seen an increase in passenger numbers of 10.4% in the first 6 months of 2016 when compared with the same period last year. Split Airport recorded an increase of 25.41%, Dubrovnik Airport 16.46%, Pula Airport 34.15%, Brac 89.97%,Zadar Airpot 3%, Osijek 7.85% and Rijeka saw an increase of 7.46%.
