Croatian Flag Flying High at the Loon Mountain Resort in America

A request to raise the Croatian flag honoured

The Croatian flag is now flying high at the Loon Mountain Resort in the U.S. state of New Hampshire after a request was met.

The bridge over the East Branch of the Pemigewasset River in Lincoln, New Hampshire, was extensively damaged by Tropical Storm Irene in August of 2011, but the new bridge opened to traffic a few weeks ago with its signature international flags entrance. The bridge serves as the main entrance to the Loon Mountain Resort.

Arriving at Loon to kick off the ski season with his ski school buddies, Win Burke, a certified PSIA ski instructor, Massachusetts resident and a long-time member of the Loon community, noticed he didn’t see a flag he would like among others.

“I just returned back from a trip to Croatia where my wife is from, so I immediately realized that a Croatian flag was not included,” said Win Burke, a serial technology entrepreneur who spent decades of winter weekends as a certified PSIA ski instructor at Loon. “I am grateful that the Resort honored my request to add the Croatian flag, which is not surprising given the history of successes by leading Croatian skiers. Imagine my wife’s surprise seeing the Croatian version of the red-white- and-blue with a beautiful red-white checkered crest flying high on the bridge!”

While this picture still has some leaves, Loon Mountain just started making snow and will likely be open on November 18. In the meantime, there are rumors that the New England Friends of Croatia, a non-profit organization will be creating a Croatian weekend this Winter. Stay tuned.
