Work to Start in Split on Tallest Building in Croatia

Work on what will be the tallest building in Croatia gets under way in Split on the Dalmatian coast next week, daily Slobodna Dalmacija reports.

The new 110-metre tall Westgate Tower, which is situated a few kilometres before the entrance into the city of Split, is expected to be completed by Easter 2018.

Once complete the south tower should be 110 metres-high, making it officially the tallest construction in Croatia. It will have 6 underground levels, a ground level and 27 floors.

The smaller north Westgate Tower has been completed

The south tower will be home to a 189-room hotel, apartments, wellness and congress centres, as well as bars and restaurants. The complex will also be headquarters to a number of international tech companies.

The north tower ‘A’ on the same plot has already been completed and has become the headquarters of Splitska banka Societe Generale Group.

The architect behind the towers is Otto Barić, son of former Croatia football coach with the same name.
Barić has designed a number of well-known projects, including the handball stadium used in Qatar for Handball World Championships there two years ago.

The total value of the investment is around 70 million euros.

Zagreb Cathedral holds the title of the tallest building in Croatia. When facing the portal, the building is 46 meters wide and 108 meters high. The next tallest is 96.15 metre tall, 25-level Business Centre in Strojavsko Street in Zagreb also.
