1.2 Million Overnight Stays for First Time in Opatija

The record 2016 tourism year for Croatia saw a number of destinations in the country set some new records.
One of those was the charming northern Adriatic town of Opatija, which recorded 1.2 million overnight stays for the first time in a calendar year since Croatia become independent in the early 90s.
From 1 January – 31 December 2016 395,767 tourists visited Opatija, creating a record 1.2 million overnight stays. Opatija enjoyed growth this year of 3% compared to 2015.
“Traditionally the most successful tourist months were July and August when 37% of the total overnight stays were recorded. We were particularly happy also with the excellent results in the post-season (September – December), which saw overnights up 7%”, the Opatija Tourist Board stated.
Austrians were the number one tourists in Opatija in 2016 with regards to numbers (64,680), followed by Germans (37,937), Croatians, Italians, Hungarians and Slovenes.
HRTurizam reports that the most tourists to visit Opatija in 2016 were between 41-60 years of age.
