An exhibition art lovers will not want to miss opens in the Croatian capital next month.
Modern Challenge, Zagreb – Vienna circa 1900 will open at the Klovićevi dvori gallery in Zagreb on 9 February 2017.
The public will have a chance to see hundreds of pieces of art from Austrian and Croatian artits from the end of the 19th and start of the 20th century.
Towards the end of the 19th century, Zagreb’s art scene had moved closer to Vienna than any other city.
Cultural exchanges between Zagreb and Vienna in this period saw Zagreb’s art scene move closer to Vienna.
Klovićevi dvori gallery
The exhibition will attempt, through key thematic narratives and actual examples, to establish the interdependence that developed between Zagreb and Viennese artists and architects that resulted in a cultural rebirth not seen before or after on the way to artistic development.
The exhibition will present the most important protagonists of the Viennese Secession – Koloman Moser, Carl Moll, Josef Hoffmann and the famous symbolist painter Gustav Klimt.
Judith II (Salome) by Klimt
Klimt was the most prominent members of the Vienna Secession movement and is noted for his paintings, murals, sketches, and other objets d’art.
