First Istrian Olive Oil Museum in Croatia Opens

The first museum dedicated to the famous Istria olive oil and its production has opened in Pula.

Museum Olei Histriae – The House of Istrian Olive Oil – tells the story of olive growing and olive oil production in Istria through history up to present times, revealing the secrets of olive processing from the Roman period to the present day.

According to many Roman writers, the Romans valued Istrian olive oil as one of the best in the Roman Empire.

Despite a number of challenges, including wars, epidemics and declining populations, Istrian olive oil has survived throughout time and is today is world-renowned, winning a number of international awards.

At the museum, visitors can discover all the aromas and tastes, as well as the chemical composition of Istrian extra virgin olive oil and learn how olive oil, together with the Mediterranean diet, affects your health.
