Hana Jušić’s debut feature film Quit Staring at My Plate has been selected as Croatia’s nomination for the best foreign-language film at the Oscars.
The Croatian Filmmakers’ Association selected the film as Croatia’s submission in the best foreign-language category of the 90th Academy Awards.
The story follows Marijana (Mia Petričević), whose life revolves around her family. They live on top of one another in a tiny apartment, driving one another crazy. Then her controlling father Lazo (Zlatko Burić) has a stroke and is left completely bedridden, and Marijana takes his place as head of the clan.
Every country is invited to submit what it considers its best film to the Academy. Only one film is accepted from each country.
After each country has designated its official entry, English-subtitled copies of all submitted films are shipped to the Academy, where they are screened by the Foreign Language Film Award Committee, whose members select by secret ballot the five official nominations for the Oscar award.
The 90th Academy Awards ceremony will take place on March 4, 2018, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Trailer for the film below.
