Mljet is one of the most seductive of all the Adriatic islands.
Located on the southern Dalmatian coast, much of the island of Mljet is covered by forests and the rest is dotted with fields, vineyards and small villages.
The western tip contains Mljet National Park, where the lush vegetation, pine forests and spectacular saltwater lakes are exceptionally scenic.
The National Park includes the western part of the island, Veliko jezero, Malo jezero, Soline Bay and a sea belt 500 m wide from the most prominent cape of Mljet covering an area of 54 km2.
It’s an unspoiled oasis of tranquillity that, according to legend, captivated Odysseus for seven years.
Mljet was mentioned in the fourth century BC in Greek writing, and the numerous Greek amphora and shipwrecks along the coast of Mljet are evidence that Greek sailors stayed on the shores of Mljet during their journeys.
Croatian photographer Goran Šafarek spent some time capturing Mljet’s beauty and has produced this (below) compilation in an impressive video.
