Croatia will be hosts for the second time of the European Men’s Handball Championship later this month.
The 2018 EHF European Men’s Handball Championship will be held this year in Croatia from 12 to 28 January 2018.
Venues which will host matches include Zagreb, Split, Varaždin, and Poreč.
Croatia will be looking to improve on their bronze medal finish at the last EURO in 2016 in Poland. Back then Croatia defeated Norway 31–24 in the 3rd/4th playoff match.
The Croatian handball team has previously won two Olympic gold medals and one World Championship, but never won the Euros, having lost two finals, one to rivals France and the other to Denmark.
At the World Champs last year in France, Croatia had to settle for 4th spot after losing to Slovenia in the playoff match.
Lino Cevar’s side this year will play all their Group A matches in Split and open against Serbia on 12 January 2018 at Spaladium Arena at 20:30.
Croatia’s remaining group matches will be against Iceland (14.01) and Sweden (16.01).
Favourites France are in Group B with Norway, Belarus and Austria. Group C is Germany, Macedonia, Slovenia and Montenegro, whilst Group D features Spain, Denmark, Czech Republic and Hungary.
The final will be played on 28 January 2018 at Zagreb Arena.
More details about the tournament can be found on the official page.
