Advent in Zagreb has attracted more tourists than ever in December.
Zagreb’s award-winning Christmas Markets have helped put the Croatian capital on the map as a winter destination, and the numbers are growing every year.
In the first 30 days of Advent in Zagreb – from 1 – 31 December 2016, 110,707 tourists visited Zagreb, creating 199,752 overnight stays. That is 23% more arrivals than in the same period the previous year.
Zagreb Tourist Board Director, Martina Bienenfeld, says she is expecting revenue generated over the advent period to pass 500 million kuna, writes Vecernji.
The largest group of foreign tourists to arrive were Italians, followed by tourists from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Austria, Slovenia, and Germany.
There were also a number of tourists from the further away who made the trip to visit Zagreb during December, including from the United States, Canada, Australia and South Korea.
With the warmer than usual weather over the Christmas period, restaurants and bars saw an increase in traffic with people also choosing to it outside.
Advent in Zagreb concludes this Sunday on 7 January 2018.
