Croatia is currently being battered by freezing weather as the polar vortex nicknamed “Beast From The East” sweeps down from the Arctic.
Most towns and cities in Croatia, including those on the Adriatic coast, have been hit with snow and temperatures deep in the minus this week. In Split this week the real feel factor was -6°C, whilst in Šibenik the real feel was a bitter -14°C.
Snow and ice have even forced roads, schools and markets to close in the worst affected areas.
Tomorrow, on Thursday 1 March, the peak of the polar vortex is set to hit. In the capital Zagreb, temperatures are set to drop to -16°C. In the east of the country in Osijek, it will also be a freezing -16°C.
On the coast in Split a low of 2°C is forecast, but the feel factor will be a lot lower.
However, once the “Beast From The East” passes, another shock is on the way, with temperatures set to jump in some parts of the country by more than 30°C in just a few days.
This weekend will see the front move on with the last of the snow stopping on Saturday.
Sunday will bring warmer weather before the temperatures rise rapidly next week to reach highs of 14°C for most of the country.
In Zagreb temperatures are expected to reach up to 16°C next weekend, warm enough to be sitting outside at the cafe.
