The Remembering Vukovar tour, which has visited Australia, New Zealand and Canada, made its way to New York in the United States.
Around 500 people packed out the legendary Croatian Church Hall in Manhattan – Sts. Cyril and Methodius and St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in New York City to greet with open arms retired veterans Damir Plavsic and Damir Markus as they presented “How we defended Vukovar” (Bitka Za Vukovar).
The evening was also aimed to educate, in particular, the Croatian youth about this tragic episode in Croatian history.
There were emotional scenes when Father Nikola Pasalic blessed and lit the first candle in memory of all those who have fallen for the homeland “Light of Vukovar” and then both retired veterans lit candles which then dispersed the light to the large crowd.
When the Generals spoke you could not hear a pin drop as the crowd was captivated. The struggle of Croatians in Vukovar and Croatia during the Homeland War presented to the Croatian community in New York through video, live narration, and songs.
The retired veterans would like to thank father Nikola Pasalic as well as the Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge 789 New York for making the presentation possible.
This performance was the 137th show of their 2-year world tour which is currently in the USA, visiting Washington D.C, Cleveland, Chicago, California, Detroit, St. Louis and Milwaukee.
A must see for all Croatians.
