Safest Cities in Croatia in 2018 Revealed

Croatia is a relatively safe nation. But which cities and towns statistically are safer than others?

For the fourth year in a row, the town of Sinj, situated around 30 km inland from the Dalmatian coastal city of Split, has been named the safest place in Croatia.

The safest places in Croatia last year, according to the rate of assaults and property crimes, and the rate of traffic offences and drug abuse were revealed at the recent 10th International Safety of Towns Conference (SIGG 2018).

29 towns in Croatia with a population of over 20,000, including those which reach that during the tourist season, were measured.

According to the results published in Zaštita magazine, the town of Sinj is officially the safest town with the best security rate, claiming the title for the fourth year running.

Sinj, which with its surrounding villages has a population over close to 25,000 people, is located in the heart of the Dalmatian hinterland and attracts tourists particularly in August when the 300-year-old Sinjska alka tournament is held.

Split was in 12th place, whilst Dubrovnik came in 14th. Zagreb was the 20th safest city or town out of 29.

At the other end of the scale, the least safe cities and towns in Croatia last year were Pula, Zadar, Varaždin, Šibenik and Slavonski Brod.
