Three weeks of fantastic tennis at two ATP Masters tournaments has elevated young Croatian tennis player Borna Coric inside the TOP 30 for the first time in his career.
Coric picked up 540 points and around half a million dollars in prize-money after making it through to the semi-final at Indian Wells, where he went down in a close match to World No.1 Roger Federer, and the quarter-final at the Miami Open last week.
On Monday the ATP’s latest rankings were released and the 21-year-old Coric has jumped to World No.28, becoming the fourth youngest Croatian in history to crack the TOP 30.
Only Goran Ivanisevic, Marin Cilic and Mario Ancic were younger when they first ranked inside ATP’s TOP 30.
Coric’s game has seen a remarkable improvement since he made sweeping changes to his team by announcing a new coach and a new manager at the start of the year.
Coric hired former Croatian star, and coach of Roger Federer, Ivan Ljubicic to be his manager, and appointed Italian Riccardo Piatti as his new coach. Coric’s best previous ranking was in 2015 when he reached No.33 in the world, but he was first to admit that then his tennis did not match his ranking.
Now the situation is different and after his run in America, and an impressive performance for Croatia to help them beat Canada to reach the Davis Cup quarterfinal, the TOP 20 is a realistic goal this year.
Meanwhile, Marin Cilic has retained his spot at No.3 in the latest rankings.
