Croatian Ultrarunner Nikolina Šustić Becomes 100 km World Champion

Croatia has yet another world champion.
Talented young Croatian ultrarunner Nikolina Šustić has won the 2018 IAU 100 km World Championship which was held on Saturday in Sveti Martin na Muri.
Šustić, who is from Split and is a former basketball player, beat the strong international field and set a new Croatian record when she finished in a time of 7:20:34. The time was 6 minutes faster than the previous Croatian record set by Marija Vrajić.
More than 350 ultra runners from over 40 countries took part in the event with 108 competitors in the women’s race which started at 7 am. The race saw competitors complete 13 7.5 km laps of the course with a smaller 2.5 km lap to end the end.

The race, which was under the patronage of the IAAF and now in its 30th year, was organised also by the International Association of Ultrarunners, the Croatian Athletics Federation, LifeClass Terme Sveti Martin and Atletski klub Sljeme.
