PHOTOS: President of Croatia Meets with New York’s Croatian Community

The President of the Republic of Croatia Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović has met with members of the Croatian community in New York on Sunday. 

President Grabar-Kitarović has kicked off her visit to the United States by attending mass at Church of Sts. Cyril & Methodius and St. Raphael in New York and mixing with the local Croatian community. 

“It is important to thank all those who have invested their patience and energy in the preservation of the Croatian community all these years and who present in their second homeland the best of their Croatia, which they always carry in the heart! “ President Grabar-Kitarović said, before attending a ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of the National Federation of Croatian Americans Cultural Foundation (NFCA).

The Croatian president is in the United States to participate in the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly in New York from Sunday, 23 September until Friday, 28 September 2018.

She will also engage in numerous meetings on the margins of the General Assembly and visit Washington, D.C.

On Monday, 24 September 2018, President Grabar-Kitarović will attend a high-level event in New York being organized by the United States Global Call to Action on the World Drug Problem, after which she will participate in the opening of the Nelson Mandela Peace Summit and deliver an address. The Croatian President will also attend a high-level meeting on the youth agenda organized by the UN Envoy on Youth and UNICEF Youth 2030. On the margins of the meeting, the President of the Republic will hold bilateral talks with the Presidents of Kenya, Cuba, Namibia and Paraguay, as well as the President of the International Olympic Committee and the UN Secretary-General.

On Tuesday, 25 September 2018 President Grabar-Kitarović will deliver an address at the UN General Assembly and participate in a high-level meeting hosted by the UN Secretary-General Action for Peacekeeping – A4P. The President of the Republic will hold a row of bilateral talks in the morning and afternoon, including with the King of Jordan and the Presidents of Angola, Lebanon, Panama and Turkey, as well as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and the UN General Assembly President.

On Wednesday, 26 September 2018 the opening of the Bloomberg Global Business Forum will take place. President Grabar-Kitarović will then meet with the President of Ukraine, participate in activities of the Global Campaign Against Anti-Semitism and attend the event One Planet on the topic of climate change, organized by the President of France Emmanuel Macron.

The President’s schedule on Thursday, 27 September 2018 will begin with an address at the opening of the event Sustaining Peace and Development in a Changing World, organized by the Nizami Ganjavi International Center. In the remainder of the day, President Grabar-Kitarović will hold bilateral meetings with the Prime Minister of Vietnam and the Presidents of Ghana and Kosovo. At the end of her working stay in New York, the Croatian President will attend the high-level event Economic Growth through Women’s Empowerment, hosted by the President of Lithuania.

On Friday, 28 September 2018 President Grabar-Kitarović will meet with the leadership of the renowned Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C. and engage in a discussion with its President John R. Allen as part of a series of lectures and discussions with world leaders, on the topic Croatian Contributions to Trans-Atlantic Bonds and Solidarity: Punching above its Weight.
