Split Airport welcomes 3 millionth passenger for first time in its history

Split Airport on Croatia’s Dalmatian coast has achieved a milestone when it welcomed its 3 millionth passenger for the first time. 

Iva Mrkonjić Ljušanin was the lucky passenger after arriving in Split on a Croatia Airlines flight from Frankfurt, Germany.  

Commenting on the milestone, Split Airport’s General Manager, Lukša Novak, said: “It wasn’t so long ago that we used to welcome our millionth traveller this time of year, and then later our second millionth passenger. Within just three years we increased our figures by one million, meaning we achieved our goal.”

Croatia Airlines Sales and Marketing Manager, Mr. Boris Kolka, presented Ljušanin with two return tickets on one of their flights. Novak says he expects Split Airport to handle a further 150.000 passengers by the end of the year. 

Split Airport has seen growth of 10% in 2018.

Split Airport’s biggest investment over the past twenty years, the construction of the long-awaited new multi-million euro terminal building, is almost 70% complete. 

The new car park and bus terminal, which has the capacity to accommodate 900 vehicles, have been completed, while a 120-metre-long enclosed pedestrian overbridge linking the area with the terminal building over the state road is nearing completion.

The 59.7 million euro project is progressing on schedule and will open for passengers in July next year.
