Dubrovnik & Split airports surprised with Ryanair’s launch announcement

Ryanair

On Monday, Ryanair announced that it will launch new flights between Dublin and Dubrovnik and Split in 2019.

According to the statement from the low-cost airline, new flights from Dublin to Dubrovnik and Split will launch in June 2019.

“Ryanair is pleased to announce another 2 new summer routes from Dublin to Dubrovnik and Split, our newest airports, which will operate twice-weekly from June, as part of our expanded Dublin 2019 Summer schedule. To celebrate, we are releasing seats across our entire Europe network from just €9.99 for travel in December and January, which are available for booking until midnight Wednesday (5 December),” Ryanair’s Robin Kiely said.

The launch, however, seems to be news to Dubrovnik and Split airports.

Talking to Jutarnji.hr, Dubrovnik Aiport’s Josip Paljetak said nothing had been agreed.

“We are surprised with Ryanair’s announcement that next summer they will launch flights to Dubrovnik. Dubrovnik Airport has no official information about their arrival, nor has any agreement regarding slots or services with them been signed,” he said.

Jutarnji.hr reports that for any company to announce flights an agreement regarding slots has to be signed first. Dubrovnik Airport states that no agreement has been signed and the situation in Split is similar. Split Airport director Lukša Novak could not confirm information about Ryanair flying to Split next summer.

“Nothing has changed at this period with regards to Split Airport and Ryanair. Our officials were at a conference in the middle of November in Madrid where flights were discussed. Nevertheless, no contact was made with Ryanair. We have information that Ryanair made some plans but those plans were not confirmed by Split Airport. Split Airport selects flights and confirms them and when they are confirmed the public will be informed. Of course, every airport has their own capacity and must take this into account,” Lukša Novak told Jutarnji.hr.

For a number of years now Ryanair has attempted to operate at Dubrovnik and Split airports but have failed to agree on terms.

Ryanair also announced 11 other new services from Dublin Airport next summer to Bodrum, Bordeaux, Bournemouth, Caligari, Frankfurt, Gothenburg, Kyiv, London Southend, Lourdes, Luxembourg and Thessaloniki.
