Tourism over Christmas & New Year holidays up 13% in Croatia

2 January 2019 – Over 159,000 tourists visited Croatia during the Christmas and New Year holidays, generating 385,500 bed nights, the Croatian Tourist Board (HTZ) said on Wednesday.
More than 159,000 tourists visited Croatia over the Christmas and New Year period, the Croatian Tourist Board (HTZ) said on Wednesday.
From 21 – 31 December, 159,031 tourists visited Croatia and created 385,515 overnight stays. This represented growth of 13% and 9% respectively compared to the same period in 2017.
Tourists from Austria (56,000) created the most overnight stays over that period, followed by tourists from Slovenia (43,000), Italy (36,000), Germany (33,000) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (22,000).
Zagreb, Opatija, Dubrovnik, Poreč and Rovinj Split, Mali Lošinj, Zadar, Umag and Crikvenica were the most visited destinations in the country during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
From 1 January – 31 December 2018, Dubrovnik recorded 1,271,657 tourist arrivals, which was 8% more than the previous year.
Tourists from the UK, USA, Germany, France and Spain were the top five.
In total, 19.7 million tourists visited Croatia in 2018, which was a record and 6.5% more than 2017.
