5 February 2019 – The Croatian Fed Cup tennis team will take part this week in the 2019 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Europe/Africa Zone Group I event in Bath, Great Britain.
Led by in the in-form Donna Vekić, who reached the final of St.Petersburg Ladies Trophy last week, Croatia will play over three days from 6-9 February in an 8-team Group I which features also Great Britain, Greece, Slovenia, Hungary, Turkey, Georgia and Serbia.
As well as world no.25 Vekić, the Croatian team features Ana Konjuh, who returns after a break following elbow surgery, Jana Fett, Tena Lukas, and Darija Jurak. Former French Open winner Iva Majoli is coach of the team.
The format will see the eight teams compete across two pools with a promotional play-off between the winners of Pool A and Pool B on 9 February determining which nation will be promoted to the World Group II play-offs. The draw for that event will take place on Monday 14 January.
Croatia is in Pool B with Serbia, Turkey and Georgia.
Last night a cocktail party was held for the players with the Croatian team dressed by well-known Croatian designer Aleksandra Dojčinović.
“Last week I played good tennis, from Monday I have the best ranking of my career – 25th. I hope for more good play this week in the Fed Cup. Our goal is to finish first in the group, we are all in good form,” Vekić told the Croatian Tennis Federation.
